Bill Holman has created a rollicking, swinging, wonderful "tribute" to Woody Herman with this great chart.  As recorded on  "Bill Holman Band Live" (jazzedmedia.com), this chart features solos for tenor saxophone, trumpet and piano. Saxophones state the theme (reminiscent of Woody's theme "Blue Flame"), and there is a lot of call and response in the brass.  The "out" chorus will lift your audiences out of their seats. 5.4.4.4 (on demo CD 116)

You and I - Meredith Willson / arr. Bill Holman - Grade 4-5 - SMP 233 - $57.00   From the LP "The Fabulous Bill Holman Band"

Holman has a wonderful knack of taking just about any tune and making it swing like crazy. This one sure does! Recorded on The Fabulous Bill Holman LP, this chart is amazing in its simplicity and effectiveness. A great "opener" or "closer!!" Features alto, tenor and baritone saxes, trpt. and dms. (on Demo CD 107)

You Go To My Head - arr. by Bill Holman - Grade 3-4 - SMP 149 - $47.00 From The Holman CD "In A Jazz Orbit"
A medium tempo, very interesting setting for this well-known standard. Lots of unison lines and superb counterpoint make this a masterful chart. You will NOT be disappointed in this one, or any of Holman's charts, for that matter. (on Demo CD 103)

Zamboni - Grade 5 - SMP 942 - $67.00  From the Holman CD "Hommage" (jazzedmedia.com)

What a marvelous chart this is! The "engine" which keeps on going is a 4-bar vamp in the rhythm section.  It occurs throughout the piece and ties everything together beautifully.  Set in a  bright swinging tempo, the chart opens with 8 bars of brushes and swings on from there. There is also solo space for tenor saxophone. Holman uses some marvelous brass effects all through the piece.  This requires soprano saxophone on the alto 1 and 2 parts.  5-4-4-4 (on demo CD 117)  As recorded on the new CD "Hommage."

Zoot 'n' Al - Grade 5 - SMP 934 - $67.00   From the Holman CD "The Bill Holman Band Live" (jazzedmedia.com)
As recorded on the new CD "The Bill Holman Band Live", this chart features two tenor saxophone players throughout, playing together and separately.  This is the ideal solo vehicle for your tenor players.  The tempo is a bright swing, and the writing ..... as always ..... is superb.  A great tribute to Zoot Sims and Al Cohn, two of the greatest in jazz history.
5-4-4-4   (on Demo CD 115)

"Little Big Band" Charts by Bill Holman

4 saxes, 2 trumpets, trombone and rhythm

From the LP "Hawthorne Nights"

Fillings - Grade 4 - SMP 324 - $37.00

Recorded on the "Hawthorne Nights" LP (PABLO) by Zoot Sims, and a wonderful cast of players, this is a neat, medium swing tune which features tenor sax (naturally). The tune starts out with a sort of "tongue-in-cheek" 2-beat feel and develops into a cooking ensemble section. 4 saxes, 2 tpts., trb, 3 rhy. (on Demo CD 108)

Hawthorne Nights - Grade 4-5 - SMP 330 - $37.00

This is a bright, up-tempo chart in a contemporary framework. Solos for tenor and trumpet lead to a powerful, swinging "shout" chorus. A 16-bar drum solo leads into a repeat of the "shout" before returning to the melody. 4 saxes, 2 tpts., trb, 3 rhy. (on Demo CD 108)

From the CD "Vic Lewis West Coast All-Stars"
